Normandy SR2 Infography by nico89-fx Normandy SR2 Infography by nico89-fx
NEW VERSION [link]

A little video: [link]

I had the Idea of better showing my Normandy model (Version 2 released, but actually version 3.0)
And what better than an Infography to do so?
I got to play around in Illustrator (Which I hadn't in a veeeery long time) And gave a try at 32 bits per channel in Photoshop, as the model was rendered with such bit depth.
It was pretty memory intensive, but it was totally worth it.

As always, comments and criticism are always very much appreciated.

Hi,
you write 237 meters as the length of the Normandy SR-2 but I have read somewhere else that she is only 216 meters long. Where did you get your length information?

Cerberus engineers told me. Nah, seriously, I made an estimate for which I used some pretty far-fetched math.
I went to the SR1's wreackage, where you can make shepard stand in front of the hull where it says 'normandy' given that the letters are a tad taller than Sheps and he should be around 1.8 / 9 meters tall, well, I scaled my model so that a letter on the hull would be 2 meters tall or so. Then it's just getting a very long tape and I got that measure, granted, it could have been wrong, but since there's no canon lenght I could have gone with anything.
OFC, this could be completely off since I did so 'by eye' but it was, I think, not all that far away from the 'real' thing.

it's 50/50.. I had to guess loads of things. But I used some references I found both online and taking ingame and cutscene screenshots.

Awesome, love it.

As a critic i might say that the textures seem a bit too shiny for me. The model is extremly detailed but the brighter parts kind of outshine the details on the ships texture.

I would also like a version with not textures, but only the polygon grid. That would add a more technical look it.

Enough with my crappy english, keep up the good work!

You even did the shuttle ramp, impressive work. That music gave me massive goosebumps when i saw the new ship ingame for the first time. Lets hope the SR2 will endure ME3 :)

Hey there.. I plan on making a "dirtier" version of it, like it's had some running time. Even though i must admit i got a bit over my head with the shinyness =)..
The polygon grid has only too many lines.. Maybe i'll try and use the unsmoothed version for that.. or less smoothing.
Your english isn't crappy btw.

I'd probably crash it. I have logged...2 hours in a single-engine Cessna. But it's so fun! :iconwhutplz:

I did it as part of a 1-credit filler class I took at my university. It was amazingly fun and I'm going to maybe get my pilot's license after I graduate. Or I might go to grad school. Or both :D

I can't wait for the day when things like the Normandy will be a reality. :iconexcitedplz:

Modelled, mapped and maybe somewhen animate it. It's ready for all parts to be moved like the original one.

It took three different approaches (Without counting trying for the sr1 first) before I came up with this one, which is the one i feel like "This looks kinda good"
After trying with boxes cylinders and all that with separate parts i found the best way was to make a plane and start extruding from there.
Give it a try. It can't hurt. And it's loads of fun trying to understand how it works without any good reference pics =)
